Family Devotional Guide

This is a guide for you and your family to spend time together in God's Word and with each other over this holiday weekend.

Opening Act:
Have everyone share their own answer (there are no wrong answers), begin with the youngest: what does it mean to say, “We have dirty feet?”

This devotional will piggy back last week’s lesson titled “Dirty Feet.” The idea behind dirty feet is that there are hurting people, people who are spiritually dirty. Jesus gave us the example to go and wash these feet.

Into the Word:
Open up a Bible and ask someone to read John 13:1-17 (you can even split it up)
Ask for whoever would like to answer: what sticks out to you about this act of service? Ask for whoever would like to answer: how is washing feet “an act of service” (verse 1)? Ask for whoever would like to answer: why would washing feet be a big deal for Jesus to do? What’s significant about Jesus doing this? Ask for whoever would like to answer: are you gifted to wash feet? Why or why not?
Turn your Bible over to 1 Corinthians 12 and ask someone to read verses 4-6 Ask for whoever would like to answer: what does it mean to be different yet have the same Lord? Ask for whoever would like to answer: what areas do you think you could help other people, wash feet? Ask for whoever would like to answer: what gifts do you see in someone else in your family?

Closing Act:
OPTION: have a bowl of water and towel ready and wash each other’s hands to symbolize and bring John 13 to life for you and your family. Simply live out this service to one another.

Ask everyone to share (there are no wrong answers), begin with the oldest person: what ways can we as a family “wash feet” and remember Jesus by doing it? *I would encourage your family to write a “plan of action” on how to accomplish what you’ve discussed
Pray together.
